Two days ago AT&T said they will now launch MediaFlo services in early 2008. (BOO!) MediaFlo streams programming from a number of TV channels to phones over its own set of spectrum. The company had originally claimed they would launch Qualcomm's TV service by the end of this year, however they claim the delay is it to fine tune the service. AT&T did not mention what sort of changes or adjustments need to be made. Verizon has been offering MediaFlo service for over 6 months.
So I'm wondering if AT&T has bitten off more than the company can chew, and thats the reason for the delay since no other explaination has been given to us, or if they simply don't know how to manage time and stick to a scheduled release date. In the battle of CDMA vs. GSM right now the winner is CDMA.

Rumors on Wall Street today suggested British Telecom (BT) is considering a purchase of Sprint. Though the rumors have helped Sprint's stock price, most analysts do not believe BT is likely to buy the carrier. BT no longer owns a mobile carrier, having sold O2 to Telefonica recently, leaving the British wireline provider few obvious reasons to invest in an American carrier. However both are members of the WiMax Spectrum Owners Alliance and have a strong interest in the technology. Previous rumors that placed SK Telecom as a front runner to buy out Sprint have been denied by the Korean carrier.

Verizon today made Motorola's Q9m smartphone available to online buyers. Although the Q9m is similar to the HSDPA Q9h, this EV-DO version features slightly different styling and downgrades some features. It shares the Q9h's keyboard, screen, Windows Mobile 6 standard (Smartphone) and stereo Bluetooth but uses Mini SD instead of MicroSD and downgrades the camera to 1.3 Megapixels. It also features a new multimedia home screen. The Q9m is only available from Verizon's website for $250 with a 2-year contract and rebates.

Sprint today also announced that it will launch CDMA handsets with Nextel Direct Connect early next year. This is not a hybrid CDMA / iDEN technology, but rather a compatible Push To Talk technology using the CDMA network which Sprint successfully tested late last month. Sprint said these handsets will come in a variety of styles, from ruggedized to sleek, and a variety of manufacturers. Sprint will continue branding their walkie talkie service Nextel Direct Connect as these new CDMA handsets will be able to work with iDEN handsets as well as each other. Sprint will also add new features to Direct Connect with these phones, including a single number for voice and PTT as well as PTT voicemail.
